Your personalized workouts will draw from Pilates mat work, exercises on Pilates machines, including the Reformer, trapeze table, barrel, chair, props, and CoreAlign. Om Spot is one of a handful of studios in San Diego that offers instruction on the CoreAlign, a machine developed by a physical therapist for rehabilitation.
Yoga asana can also be incorporated into lessons to increase flexibility and balance. Acro Yoga sessions offer an avenue for dynamic partner workouts and partner stretching to strengthen physicality and provide healthy quality time.
Pilates Pilates is a system of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century that was originally developed as rehabilitation for war victims. This low impact form of exercises can be done using just one’s own body weight or using specially designed Pilates machines.
Pilates became popular with dancers due to the development of long lean musculature using Joseph Pilates’ techniques. Pilates gained spotlight with celebrities such as Madonna, Reese Witherspoon, and Cameron Diaz touting its results. The benefits of Pilates include enhanced flexibility, improved posture, physical strength, and balance.
CoreAlign The CoreAlign was developed by physical therapist Jonathan Hoffman to challenge the body in a more functional way, using exercises developed to challenge you in an upright position using resistance and mobile platforms. When used properly, the CoreAlign helps improve posture, balance, core strength, and stabilization. Yoga Yoga is comprised of spiritual, mental, and physical practices to promote overall well-being for the mind, body, and spirit. This ancient discipline originated in India but became popular in the West in the 80s.
Yoga has maintained its popularity to this day for good reason! Many people have found enhanced inner peace with a consistent yoga practice, and yoga has become an integral part of a healthy lifestyle for relaxation and mental and physical grounding.
Acro Yoga Acro Yoga is a newer addition to the yoga family and does not actually closely resemble traditional yoga. This practice was developed by Jason Nemer and his partner Jenny Klein in 2003.
Jason came from a sports acrobatic background and Acro Yoga was born when his world collided with Jenny, who was a yoga and circus arts teacher. They blended the peaceful sides of Thai massage and yoga with the more dynamic movements of acrobatics and circus performance to create poses and sequences that we now associate with Acro Yoga.
The community for Acro Yoga is growing fast, and the benefits include trust and communication-building with a partner and community, as well as the physical benefits of strength-building and stretching.
